Buying and connecting a domain

Search for a name, pay the yearly price in credits, and point it at any of your projects. Renewals are charged to your credits on their own, with a receipt every time.

What you get

A domain bought on DontCode is registered for you and managed for you. There is no registrar account to open, no contact form to fill in and no settings to paste: the name is live on your project about a minute after you buy it, with the browser padlock set up automatically.

Buying a domain

Open Domains from your account menu, or Domain & hosting inside a project, and type the name you want. Every extension we sell is checked at once, and each available name shows its yearly price in credits before you decide.

  • The first year is charged to your credit balance when you buy. If your balance is short, nothing is charged and you can top up first.
  • The name is usually confirmed within a minute. If the order cannot be completed, the credits come straight back to your balance and you get an email saying so.
  • A numbered receipt is emailed to you and listed in Billing history under Domains.
  • Buying from inside a project connects the new domain to that project as soon as it is live.

Pointing it at a project

Each domain card on the Domains page has a project picker. Choose a project and the domain is connected; choose another later and it moves. Inside a project, Domain & hosting lists the domains you own that are not connected there yet, so one pick connects one.

Connecting a domain to a project is included from the Starter plan. The free dontcode.cafe web address keeps working alongside it.

Renewals

Domains renew for a year at a time. You do not have to remember the date:

  • 45 days before expiry you get an email with the renewal price and the day it will be charged.
  • 35 days before expiry the renewal is charged to your credits and the domain is renewed. You get a receipt.
  • If your balance is short on that day, you get an email and we try again every day. A week before expiry the domain shows "Renewal unpaid" and you get a last reminder.
  • A domain that is still unpaid on its expiry date expires, and the name is released for anyone to register.

You can stop renewing any time from the domain card. The domain stays live and connected until its expiry date, and you can turn renewal back on before then.

What it costs

Prices are per year and depend on the extension (.com, .co.kr, .app and so on). The exact price in credits is shown next to every result before you buy and on the domain card afterwards, so the renewal is never a surprise. Domains use the same credits as everything else on DontCode.

If something goes wrong

  • "Order failed": the registrar could not complete the purchase. Your credits were returned automatically; try the name again or pick another.
  • "Already held on DontCode": another account owns the name here. Choose a different name.
  • "Price unavailable": the extension cannot be priced right now. Try again in a few minutes.
  • Moving a domain you bought elsewhere onto DontCode, or taking a DontCode domain to another registrar, is handled by support for now.
